Alright, let's face it - many folks just don't get why you'd need to hire an event planner. I mean, come on, having a planner is seen as a fancy extra rather than a must-have. So, most people are like, "I got this, I can do it myself!" And hey, maybe you can. But here's the kicker - do you really want to? 🤔 Embarking on this journey solo might have you regretting your decision faster than you can say "cake pops." Here are five reasons why you shouldn't host your own event without professional help:
1. DIY Decor Disasters!
Ah, yes, the allure of Pinterest-perfect decorations that scream "Look at me" But let's face it, trying to make an organic balloon arch or diy centerpieces might end up looking more like a kid's art project. Who knew balloons could be so rebellious? I recall setting up an event where the homemade centerpieces started falling apart as soon as I touched them. The client wanted to save money, which is understandable, and opted to have a family member create the centerpieces. However, it turned into a glue gun disaster! Not to mention, If you're hosting your event at a venue you'll need to factor in transport, decor prep, load in and load out. DIY decor rarely survives transport. Save yourself the hassle, your pinterest worthy party pics will thank you later!
2. Food Fails
Cooking for a crowd sounds like a piece of cake, right? Wrong! From burnt appetizers to undercooked mains, the kitchen can quickly turn into a war zone when you're flying solo. And let's not even get started on the horror of realizing you forgot a vegetarian option for your favorite Aunt. You don't want to get the bad food/no food reputation. People will steer clear the next time you host an event if you don't feed them properly! There is nothing guests hate more than attending an event with a gift and leaving hungry.
3. Timeline Troubles
Ever heard of "Fashionably late"? Well, when you're a one-person event planning show, arriving fashionably late might just mean you're still setting up when your guests start knocking at the door. Don't let time management mishaps derail your event. Get yourself a wingman (or woman) to ensure everything runs smoother than a perfectly chilled glass of champagne. Even as a professional event planner with years of experience under my belt I never go at it alone. Perhaps that is the key to my success.
4. Burnout
News flash everyone, planning is exhausting! (Physically and mentally) Even though the outcome appears beautiful and seamless that's the illusion your planner has set for you. Have you ever gone out to dinner with your special someone and the lights are perfectly dimmed, the music is playing softly in the background and your server even calls you by your name, everything seems perfect! Then on your way to the restroom, you walk by the kitchen and get a glimpse of the chaos! Everyone is sliding so much on the damn floor it looks like they are ice skating, the cooks are covered in food and yelling meal orders at one another. That's what you will be subjecting yourself to.
5. Cleanup Catastrophes
The last guest has departed, the music has faded, and you're left staring at a sea of discarded party hats and empty cups. The cleanup crew? You guessed it – you. Hosting an event is fun, but the aftermath? Not so much. Save yourself the stress-induced vacuum dance and hire some help to handle the post-party cleanup while you relax and relive the night's highlights.
So, there you have it – five oh-so-relatable reasons why hosting your own event without the right help might just have you questioning your life choices. Remember, a successful event is all about enjoying the moment, not stressing about the details. So go on, take a load off, and let the pros handle the party planning while you soak up the spotlight (and maybe a cocktail or two). If you're not able to splurge on an event planner consider retaining one for consulting or setup/breakdown services.
Alright, party people, until next time – stay fabulous, stay festive, and most importantly, stay away from the DIY disasters!
Happy Planning!
